Crowned on the Hill of Mercy
“Crowned on the Hill of Mercy” is a contemplative acrylic painting that draws the viewer into the stillness of Calvary. Set beneath a glowing, golden sky, three crosses rise from the rugged earth, bearing witness to the moment where justice and mercy met. The crown of thorns rests below, no longer merely a symbol of pain, but of love poured out without restraint.
This painting was created in response to a friend’s vision. I painted it in order to show her how she could paint her own, translating what she saw in her spirit into colour, form, and story. What began as a teaching moment became a sacred encounter with the weight and beauty of the cross.
Painted on A3 watercolour paper, the work carries a childlike honesty and a reverent simplicity. The bold warmth of the sky contrasts with the broken ground beneath, echoing the hope that rose from the darkest hour. This piece invites reflection rather than explanation, making it suitable for homes, prayer spaces, counselling rooms, and leadership offices where faith and humility are held with honour.
This artwork speaks quietly yet powerfully of a King whose crown was suffering, whose throne was a cross, and whose victory was mercy.
