Held Together by the Cross

The hidden signature of God in our very design

📖 “He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”

Colossians 1:17

There is a protein molecule called Laminin that scientists describe as the “cell adhesion molecule.” Its job is to hold us together at the most microscopic level, binding cells to one another and to the framework of the body. Without it, our bodies would literally fall apart.

But here’s the wonder: when you look at Laminin’s structure, it resembles a cross. Can you see God’s fingerprints here? It’s as if the Creator embedded a holy reminder in the fabric of our being — the Cross itself woven into the design of what holds us together.

In Hebrew, the word dāḇaq (דָּבַק) means to cling, to hold fast, to be bound inseparably. It’s used of a husband cleaving to his wife in covenant, and of our souls clinging to God in trust and dependence (Deuteronomy 10:20). Laminin quietly preaches that same truth inside us: we are held together, bound, and sustained by Christ.

When life feels like it’s unravelling, when the pieces of our world seem scattered and fragile, Colossians 1:17 whispers hope — Jesus is holding you together. Even when you can’t hold on, He does not let go.

You are not an accident. You are not forgotten. You are marked and held by the Cross.

  • Where do I feel like I’m falling apart right now, and how can I invite Jesus into that space to hold me together? 🤔

  • How does knowing that the Cross is imprinted even at the cellular level change how I see myself as God’s beloved creation? 🤔

Create a cross interwoven with spirals of DNA or threads of light. Let each strand symbolise the truth that Christ binds together the fragments of your story into something whole and beautiful.
