📖 “But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire. Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.”
Matthew 5:22–24

Anger reveals the posture of the heart. Sometimes it rises like a spark, but if left unchecked, it hardens into stone — making reconciliation seem impossible. Jesus reminds us that true worship is not simply offering gifts at the altar, but offering our hearts without bitterness, unforgiveness, or contempt.
In Hebrew thought, the word shalom (שָׁלוֹם) doesn’t just mean “peace” as the absence of conflict. It means wholeness, harmony, and restoration. When Jesus calls us to leave our gift and first reconcile, He is inviting us into shalom — a peace that heals broken relationships and reflects God’s heart.
Unresolved anger clouds our worship; reconciliation clears the way. To be reconciled is to choose humility over pride, tenderness over rage, and love over offence. It’s not easy — but it is holy.

Reflection:
Where has anger or resentment hardened your heart toward someone? 🤔
What step could you take today to move closer to reconciliation, even if it’s only a gentle prayer for that person? 🤔
How might your worship feel different if your heart was unburdened by offence? 🤔

Life Application:

Affirmation:
Remember, reconciliation is a journey — sometimes a small step is all that is needed to begin. God sees and honours every effort.
Creative Prompt:
Create an image of two hands — one clenched, one open. Journal or paint about the difference between them: which posture does your heart lean toward today?🤔 Let colour, shape, or words help you explore how anger restricts and how reconciliation releases.

Closing Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You call me to live at peace, to walk in shalom. Where anger has taken root in my heart, soften me with Your love. Where pride has stood in the way, give me humility to take the first step. Help me see others as You see them — precious, beloved, worthy of grace. Let my worship flow from a reconciled heart, free to love as You love me.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
