📖 "They are life…"
In the original Hebrew, the word “life” is chayyim (חַיִּים). It means more than biological existence. It speaks of vitality, fullness, breath, vigour, a life animated by God Himself, God-breathed aliveness. This is the same word used when God breathed life into Adam. Scripture is reminding us that God’s words do not merely instruct, they animate.
Wisdom is not information.
Wisdom is life-energy aligned with God.
Wisdom sustains life beyond survival.
“Le-mots’eihem” (לְמֹצְאֵיהֶם) — To those who find them
The verb matsa means to discover after searching. This is not passive hearing. It implies seeking, valuing, pursuing. Wisdom becomes life only when it is found, received, and held.
📖 "Health to all their flesh."
“Marpe” (מַרְפֵּא) — Healing, remedy, restoration
This word is rich. It is used for healing wounds, mending what is broken, restoring what has been weakened. It does not rush. It restores.Wisdom does not only instruct behaviour. It repairs damage.
God’s truth brings holistic restoration.
God’s words, when sought and received, carry life-force. They do not remain abstract or theoretical. They move into the body, bringing restoration where strain, trauma, or disorder have settled. Wisdom is medicine. Truth is treatment. Obedience becomes nourishment.
Taken together, Proverbs 4:22 reveals a holy truth: when God’s Word is found, received, held, and lived, it brings life that pulses and healing that reaches places pain once lived.
This verse sits within a passage where the father urges his child to guard the heart above all else. What we allow into the heart eventually shapes the body. Peace steadies the breath. Truth calms the mind. Love restores what fear has tightened. God designed us this way.
The Holy Spirit does not rush this process. He gently leads truth from the ear, to the heart, and into the deepest places where healing is still unfolding.
Scripture is not a slogan to repeat, it is nourishment to be absorbed.

This is why the surrounding verses speak of guarding the heart. The heart is the gateway through which life or sickness flows.
