The Journey of the Heart

When behaviour reveals what words may hide

📖 “Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.”

Proverbs 4:23

So often we look at behaviour, our own or others’ and draw conclusions. But behaviour is only ever the fruit. The root lies far deeper, buried in the unseen terrain of the heart.

The heart is not just a poetic symbol. In Hebrew understanding, it’s the seat of the inner person, the place of thought, emotion, memory, and will. It’s where choices are made, where courage rises or retreats, where wounds bleed quietly until touched by Jesus. It's the place from which our life flows.

John Eldredge and Brent Curtis once wrote, “The true story of each person is the journey of his or her heart.” That sentence alone feels like an altar — an invitation to slow down and look beneath the surface of our lives.

Core level wounding needs core level healing. Not behavioural modification, not polished performance, but honest, heart-level transformation. And this is exactly what Jesus came to bring.

📖 “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” — Psalm 147:3 (NKJV)

Sometimes we feel ashamed of what leaks out when we’re under pressure. But like a sponge, when squeezed, we reveal what was hidden inside. This isn’t to condemn us. It’s an invitation to healing. A redeemed heart isn’t perfect, but it is surrendered. Holy Spirit dwells there, whispering truth and restoring courage where fear once ruled.

Sanctification may bring old things to death, but transformation breathes new life. We were given new hearts at conversion, not to ignore the wounds but to invite Jesus into them.

Are you following your redeemed heart today, or living from an unhealed place? Has your will been broken? Has your memory been held hostage by past pain? These are not flaws to be fixed, but sacred places waiting to be restored.

Run your race — your agōn, your agony — well. Not in striving, but in faith. Wholehearted. Honest. Yielded. Let your life be the fruit of a healed heart.

Creative Prompt.png

Creative Prompt:

On a blank page, draw a heart. Inside it, journal the things Holy Spirit shows you — thoughts, emotions, old memories, broken vows, unhealed hurts. Around the outside, write Scriptures and promises that speak truth over those wounds. Let it become a visual altar of your healing journey.

Closing Prayer:

Jesus, I bring You my heart — not just the lovely parts, but the places I’ve hidden, ignored, or tried to fix on my own. Heal the memories that still ache. Restore the courage that was broken. Thank You for giving me a new heart and placing Your Spirit within me. Help me walk in the fullness of that truth, surrendered and whole. I want to live from the inside out. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
