The Art of Showing Up for the Ones He Loves

📖“When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not wholly reap the corners of your field… you shall leave them for the poor and for the stranger: I am the Lord your God.”

Leviticus 23:22

There are days when showing up feels like planting seeds in dry soil. Quiet, unnoticed, almost thankless. This weekend was one of those days. I had five signed up. Not ten. Not twenty. Just five. I packed double anyway — just because I like to be prepared. And wouldn’t you know, a few more came. So we set up a few more tables and fetched the second box of canvases we had left in the car.

I could have cancelled. I could have rescheduled. But I showed up. And there in that humble room — plastic tablecloths, palettes of paint, hearts quietly opening — Holy Spirit moved.

Then this morning, I received this handwritten note, reminding me again why we do what we do.

"We’ve been praying for a ministry that can cater to drug-addicted, lost street people...""Thank you for your ministry. I see many people coming to JESUS because of your efforts."

Nancy’s words, a seed of encouragement watered with hope. A divine reminder that what may look small in the natural is often sacred in the unseen.

Leviticus 23:22 isn't just about crops. It’s about margin. Leaving space for the ones who wander in late. The ones who didn’t RSVP. The ones who can’t pay but carry a hunger far deeper than food. We leave space — in our calendars, in our supply kits, in our hearts — for the ones Jesus would have stopped for on the road.

The image from that spiral-swirled background card — a group of eclectic, colourful people — captured it perfectly. A community not bound by sameness, but connected by kindness.

Reflection:

Where are you being asked to leave the “edges of your field” unharvested — space, time, resources — for those who might not yet have a seat at the table? 🤔

You are seen, beloved. Your margin is holy ground.Keep showing up — the harvest is richer than you know. 🏋️

Creative Prompt:

Imagine your life as a field. Use paper, canvas, or your art journal to create a visual representation of that field — not just the harvest, but the corners left untouched.

  • 🌾 What do those unharvested edges represent?🤔

  • Are they moments of rest, acts of service, spontaneous generosity, or time set aside for someone who needs you? 🤔

Add textures or colours that reflect hidden fruitfulness — places where God moves quietly. Perhaps paint in muted tones for areas that feel unseen, and golden hues for the sacred “small” that carries eternal weight.

As you create, whisper a prayer of surrender:“Lord, help me to steward my field with open hands. Teach me to trust You with the outcomes. May the margins of my life become Your holy ground.”

Closing Prayer:

Lord, thank You for the quiet nudges to show up when it doesn’t make sense. Thank You for the notes that water our weary hearts and the faces that remind us why we keep setting the table. May I never overlook the beauty in the small, the sacred in the simple, or the eternal in the everyday. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
