Qualified by Fire

When God calls, He equips — even in places we feel unworthy

📖 "Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God."

2 Corinthians 3:5

There are moments when God’s call stirs something so much bigger than us that it almost terrifies us. The bow feels too heavy, the target too far, the horse beneath us too wild. Yet He whispers: “Go.”

Scripture reminds us that our confidence is not found in our own abilities, but in Him.

📖 "Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God." — 2 Corinthians 3:5 (NKJV).

The Hebrew word for “sufficient” in this verse carries the sense of adequacy, competence, and ability. Paul reminds us that none of this is self-made. God Himself is the One who makes us able.

Like Moses at the burning bush, Gideon hiding in the winepress, or Jeremiah doubting his youth, we wrestle with feelings of inadequacy. Yet God delights to show His strength through our weakness. He doesn’t call the qualified — He qualifies the called.

Every arrow of faith He places in our hands is lit with the fire of His Holy Spirit, aimed straight at the assignment He has chosen for us. You are not sent unprepa

Reflection:

  • Where do I feel most unqualified in my current season, and what might God be saying to me there? 🤔

  • Can I remember a moment when God empowered me to do something I never thought I could? 🤔

  • What “flame-lit arrow” of faith has He placed in my hands right now? 🤔

Creative Prompt:

Paint or journal an image of yourself holding a flame-tipped arrow. Ask Holy Spirit to show you what that arrow represents in your current season — perhaps a gift, a word, or an act of courage.

Closing Prayer:

Lord, thank You for calling me even when I feel unworthy. I surrender my inadequacies into Your hands. Kindle the fire of faith within me, and steady my aim toward the assignments You have prepared. May every step I take remind me that my sufficiency is in You alone.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
