We often pray for comfort, not realising that comfort doesn’t always equal safety. Comfort seeks to cushion our hearts from pain, while safety anchors us in the presence of the One who holds us. Our hearts long for ease, but our souls crave assurance — not the removal of struggle, but the security of knowing that even in the storm, we are held.

Comfort promises peace but rarely delivers it. It soothes for a moment yet silently steals our courage, convincing us that safety lies in staying where it’s easy. But safety in Christ is different. It invites us into fire and flood without fear, because we are accompanied. True safety doesn’t rescue us from the waves — it steadies us within them.

Faith flourishes not in the absence of hardship, but in the awareness of God’s nearness. The Hebrew word batach (בָּטַח) means “to trust” or “to feel secure” — not because of circumstance, but because of relationship. The kind of safety God offers is not fragile or fleeting; it is fortified by His faithfulness.

When we rest in His presence, courage begins to bloom. We stop pleading for escape and start praying for endurance. We stop fearing the fire and start finding Him in it
