When You Know Your Why
Your why gives you roots when life is uncertain.
I never set out to be a public speaker. I never dreamed of standing in front of a room or posting my thoughts for the world to see. To be honest, communication and leadership have often felt like unfamiliar shoes—too big, too bold, too uncomfortable.
And yet... here I am. Writing. Speaking. Learning. Growing.
Why?
Because God placed a fire in my heart for the wounded and the voiceless — for those who feel forgotten or lost in the noise of this world. I believe deeply that healing is possible. That hope is alive. That one broken heart restored is worth every ounce of discomfort I face.
To bring God’s healing to the nations, I know I must stretch beyond what feels safe. I have to grow in skill, in confidence, in courage. Not to prove anything, but to serve better. To add value to others. To speak with compassion and truth. To lead from a place of humility and love.
And so, I keep showing up. Even when I’m afraid.Even when the words don’t come easily.Even when I feel small.
Because I’ve learned that when we know our why, we uncover a quiet strength that carries us through the mundane. Our purpose gives meaning to the repetitive, the unglamorous, the ordinary. It turns daily tasks into sacred stepping stones.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” — Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)

There’s something sacred about discovering your why — that quiet, unwavering sense of purpose woven into your very being. When it finally surfaces, often through life’s trials and tenderness, it illuminates everything. Suddenly, the mundane moments are no longer meaningless. They become holy ground — essential steps along a path God laid long before you were born.
Mark Twain once said, “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” That second day — the day purpose finds you — is like a key turning in a long-locked door. And once it's open, nothing looks the same.
Your why gives you roots when life is uncertain. It transforms your daily routine into a sacred rhythm and your perseverance into quiet worship. When the world celebrates noise and visibility, your purpose reminds you that even the unseen and humble things matter in the Kingdom of God. A whispered prayer, a gentle word, a trembling act of courage — each one a thread in the beautiful tapestry of your calling.
For me, communication, public speaking, and leadership have always lived outside my comfort zone. I used to see them as steep, jagged mountains I wasn’t equipped to climb. But when I look into the eyes of the brokenhearted — the unheard, the silenced — and I know: this is why. This is the reason I press forward. Not for recognition, but for redemption. Not for applause, but for healing. To bring God's love into fractured places, I must first let Him refine and equip me.
So, I stretch. I learn. I stumble and try again. Because the love of Christ calls me deeper. And because becoming uncomfortable in my becoming is a small price to pay for the honour of serving His heart and His people.
Creative Prompt:
Find a quiet moment today and reflect on your own why. Write it down as a letter to your younger self — gentle, kind, and full of hope. Tell them what you’ve discovered and how far you’ve come. Decorate the page with colours or symbols that represent your purpose. Let it be an altar of remembrance.
Closing Prayer:
Father, thank You for creating me with a purpose, even before I took my first breath. When I feel unsure or unqualified, remind me that You’ve already gone ahead of me, preparing good works for me to walk in. Give me courage to grow, grace to stumble, and the faith to keep showing up — even when it’s hard. Help me to trust that every small act done in love brings healing, beauty, and Your presence into the world. Strengthen me to continue to do good and be joyful. Let my life whisper Your hope to the voiceless and shine Your light into broken places. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
