Wisdom Comes from God

Updated: 19 hours ago

Learning to receive what cannot be earned or manufactured

📖 "For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding." — Proverbs 2:6 (NKJV)

Overview

This verse begins with a quiet certainty that wisdom does not originate in human effort or experience. Wisdom has a source, and that source is the LORD Himself. Wisdom is not discovered through striving, but received through relationship. God gives wisdom generously because it reflects His heart and His ways.

The Hebrew root of ḥokmâ points again to skilled living, yet Scripture makes clear that this skill is imparted by the Lord, not self-produced. Wisdom begins with listening.

Verse-by-Verse Reflection

📖 "For the Lord gives wisdom…"

The Hebrew word for gives here, natan, carries the tenderness of a deliberate offering, placed into willing hands. The LORD is not withholding or distant. He is generous, intentional, and kind. Wisdom is a gift, not a reward. God is the source, not merely the distributor. This truth humbles our pride and invites trust.

📖 "From His mouth come knowledge and understanding."

Notice the intimacy of the phrase, “from His mouth.” Wisdom flows from a relationship. It is spoken, breathed, shared. Knowledge and understanding are not cold facts but living truth, shaped by God’s heart and revealed to those who listen. Scripture invites us to come near, to lean in, to receive what only He can impart.

For the newly awakened heart, this is a comfort. You do not need to know everything. You only need to stay close to the One who does.

God speaks wisdom. His Word carries clarity, discernment, and direction. When we open Scripture, we position ourselves to hear His voice.

💫 Heart Application

Wisdom grows where humility lives. Each day becomes an invitation to ask, to listen, and to trust that God delights in guiding your steps. When decisions feel heavy or the path seems unclear, remember that Heaven is not silent. The LORD speaks, and His words carry light.

Wisdom grows in hearts that remain teachable. When we release the pressure to have all the answers, we make room for God’s guidance to shape our steps.

Live It Gently

Before reacting or deciding today, pause and ask, “Lord, what are You saying here?”

💡 Reflection

  • Where have I been relying on my own understanding instead of seeking God’s wisdom 🤔

  • How might listening more closely change my responses 🤔

  • What would change if I approached decisions as moments of receiving rather than proving myself 🤔

🎺 Affirmation

God is not distant from my questions. He gives wisdom freely, and I am learning to listen with a quiet, trusting heart. God delights in giving wisdom to those who seek Him with open hearts.

🪂 Life Application

Begin your day with a simple prayer for wisdom before undertaking tasks and engaging in conversations. Pause before reacting, inviting God’s understanding to shape your response. Read one proverb slowly today, asking God to speak through it personally.

🎨 Creative Prompt

Illustrate an open ear or open hands, symbolising a heart ready to receive.

🤲 Closing Prayer

Father God, I thank You that You are generous with wisdom. I ask You to teach me to listen, to trust Your voice above all others, and to walk in understanding shaped by Your truth. Let my heart remain open and my spirit attentive.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
